IMAP and Gmail

I’ve noticed a little traffic recently about GMail support for IMAP and to be honest was feeling a little left out when the option didn’t appear in my gmail settings.

After spending a little time looking at this tonight and finding that my wife’s gmail account DID have IMAP available, I found out why. It all has to do with the language settings.

The first option under settings in Gmail is the language setting and being in Australia I of course set my language to English (UK). I changed this to English (US) and hocus pocus… all of a sudden I had an IMAP configuration option.

I enable IMAP support and then configured my windows mobile device for IMAP for my Gmail account, all working.
Afterwards I changed my language settings back to English (UK) and the IMAP account settings disappeared in gmail however the IMAP account still works through my mobile device.

Hope this helps anyone trying to figure this out.
